Keyword Research.
This is seen by many as the most important part of setting up a niche website without the right keywords you can't drive traffic to your website successfully. Keywords are the foundations of a niche website, without a good foundation you can't build a sturdy house. The same applies for niche websites you can't build a reliable income without good keywords. Now normally keyword research can be a long and daunting task but thanks to an amazing bit of software it can be made a lot easier.
The software I'm talking about is market samurai this is how I do my keyword research and I'm yet to find a marketing tool as successful as this so the first thing i want you to do is follow the link and download market samurai there is a 14 day free trial so I would take advantage of this. The website itself has lots of information on how to do keyword research but here is a few of the basics you should follow;
1. You need to look at long-tail keywords e.g. instead of golf which is a broad phrase try looking for improve golf game. This is a more specific search term the chances are that the competition is lower than golf but because it's more specific you know what they want.
2. Ideally you want keywords to have a search volume of about 80+ perday.
3. To start off I would say you don't want any more than 30000 competing pages.
4.When you have a list of keywords that meet the criteria you need to do some seo analysis which market samurai also does for you. What you are looking for are websites which you think you can rank better than.
None of these are set in stone what will happen is you will start to develop techniques that work better for you but these are a good starting point.
Once all that is done you should have a completed list of keywords to use for your website, I would aim for 20+ keywords. Now you can move onto the next step Making a Website.
